State Chiefs to Honor S.C. Fallen Firefighters

The S.C. State Association of Fire Chiefs and other members of the state’s fire service recently honored two firefighters who died in 2011 while serving their communities.

A ceremony was held at the S.C. Fallen Firefighters Memorial, which is housed on the grounds of the S.C. Fire Academy, 141 Monticello Trail in Columbia.

The two firefighters whose names were added to the memorial were:

• Chief Dennis Cauthen, Elgin Volunteer Fire Department (served as a volunteer firefighter for more than 30 years)
• Chief Robin West, assistant chief of the Startex Fire Department in Spartanburg County (served as a firefighter for 35 years)
