Initial Nuclear, Utility, Chemical, and Paper Plant Fire Brigade Training

9124 Utility, Chemical, and Paper Plant Initial Fire Brigade

Scope and Content: This program meets and exceeds OSHA requirements for Interior Structural Firefighter training. This training involves classroom, in-depth hands-on training and live firefighting. It includes chemistry of fire, fire extinguisher training, the proper use of protective clothing and in-depth use of SCBA, search and rescue, hose streams, interior fire attack, live firefighting using the burn buildings, flammable liquid and flammable gas props, and foam firefighting. Brigade members will function as a team and use the incident command system for firefighting evolutions. The hazards of electrical equipment, motors, switchgear and cable tray fires will be covered.
Test: Written test and practical skill evaluation required for successful completion.
Skill/Training Level: Exceeds OSHA 1910.156
Length: 4 days of instruction and field exercises
Prerequisite: None
Student Enrollment: 15 minimum / 20 maximum
Course Fee: $635 - In-state, $693 - Out-of-state
(Includes lunch on the first day, breakfast and lunch the remaining days, and double occupancy lodging accommodations for three nights.)

 


9139 Initial Nuclear Fire Brigade

Scope and Content: This program meets the requirements of 10 CFR 50 Appendix R, section I, Fire Brigade training and OSHA Interior Structural Firefighter training. The training involves classroom and drills. It includes chemistry of fire, fire extinguisher training, the use of protective clothing, in-depth SCBA use and training, search and rescue, hose streams, interior fire attack, ventilation and live firefighting using the burn building, training tower, and flammable liquid and flammable gas props. Five-person brigade teams will be used for drill evolutions using the incident command system to direct the attack. Also addressed are fire hazards of nuclear plants, hazards of products of combustion, and fires in contaminated and radiological areas. The hazards of electrical equipment, motors, switchgear and cable tray fires will be covered, as well as a review of automatic fire suppression systems, automatic sprinkler systems, CO2 and halon systems.
